Schools and colleges can make a real difference to the lives of children living with and affected by HIV by providing a supportive and inclusive environment.
ACET delivers a ½ day workshop for staff teams, Working towards an HIV-friendly school, which includes case studies and provides practical information and suggestions on ways of supporting children and young people living with HIV, including creating an HIV-friendly school or college environment, maintaining confidentiality and dealing with disclosure about an individual’s HIV status.
The workshop includes:
- The latest facts about HIV and AIDS, including treatment
- Routes of HIV transmission and educational settings
- Case studies and practice challenges
- HIV-related stigma and discrimination and its impact on children and families
- Supporting infected and affected children and young people in educational settings
- Working towards an HIV-friendly school or college
