Harm Reduction Programme for IDUs

Intravenous Drug Users (IDUs) who share their equipment or 'works' with others are at high risk of contracting blood borne viruses such as HIV or Hepatitis B and C. Harm reduction is the principle of minimising the health risks associated with intravenous drug use.

Jersey's Alcohol and Drugs Service provides a needle exchange scheme for IDUs, which offers clean needles and advice about safer injecting. The Alcohol and Drugs Service also offers Hepatitis B and C testing, Hepatitis B vaccinations, support when detoxing, counselling and a range of treatment programmes for those working to overcome their addiction.

Needle exchange

The needle exchange scheme is confidential and open to anyone, however all under 18s will need to visit the Alcohol and Drugs Service in Stopford Road before being able to access the scheme at A & E or any of the participating pharmacies.  

Service users can collect/purchase 'fit packs' containing a supply of clean needles, citric acid and antiseptic swabs from the following locations:
