Working with Church youth groups
Most churches find it hard to face the fact that teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and HIV are all issues which can affect young people in our churches, as well as in the wider community.
However, unless we think that somehow churches are entirely separated from and irrelevant to the community in which we live, we should not be surprised that these are issues which affect young people in churches as well as in the wider community.
In fact, surveys show that the issues young people in church youth groups struggle with more than anything else are issues around sex and relationships. We therefore need to treat sex education and HIV/AIDS prevention seriously with young people in our churches. This means starting around the age of puberty, or even earlier.
All sex education delivered by ACET in church settings is age-appropriate, delivered sensitively in a balanced way, with an emphasis on the positive aspects of marriage, family life and waiting for the right person.
We believe educating parents is also vitally important, as is encouraging them to take the primary responsibility for educating their children, which is rightfully theirs.
For more information about ACET’s education services for churches please contact us, we will be happy to answer questions and discuss ACET’s approach with you in more detail.
